On April 15 the Northwestern community will gather in Beverly & John Lord Knight Performance Hall to celebrate and watch the highly anticipated student films showcased at the Five16 Film Festival. What began as a small film festival in 2007 quickly grew into a large-scale and sold-out event attended by over 1,200 people.
The Five16 Film Festival was named after the verse Matthew 5:16 which says, “Let your light shine before others….so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” and encourages students to display films they have cultivated and created.

Reason 1: Student-Produced Films
Students who submit films often spend months or years crafting their creations, which are then categorized into five areas and judged by an elite panel of professionals in the film industry. Many attendees look forward to viewing the student-produced films and even have the opportunity to vote for their favorite film of the festival through audience choice voting. The Five16 Film Festival provides students with a golden opportunity for growth in their field, provides lots of laughs, and inspires future filmmakers to glorify Christ with their talents and abilities.
Reason 2: Show Support
In addition to viewing the amazing student-produced films, students, alumni, and faculty can support their film students by attending or watching the festival.
Reason 3: Entertainment
Not only is the festival entertaining, but it also provides a wonderful break from studying and the busyness of life. Each year the film festival receives raving reviews leaving viewers feeling amused and enthralled at the comical or deep films showcased.

After the event, students can head over to the Ericksen Gym for the Five16 After Party hosted by Core Student, which will occur from 9 to 11 p.m.
