Let’s be honest, college is crazy, busy, and often, stressful. It tends to get quite chaotic, especially when you are trying to balance school, work, and social life. It is often easy to get distracted by all the things that life throws at you. Learning how to balance it all, and to keep Christ a priority, can be difficult.

However, as believers, this is something we must strive for. It’s not something that will be particularly easy, but it will be the most beneficial thing you can do. So, here are five practical ways to incorporate Christ into your busy schedule:

1. Start your day off with quiet time.

Bible reading and quiet time helps set the tone for your day.

Waking up in the morning is not always the most enjoyable thing, but you have to do it anyway, so why not get up 10 minutes earlier and start your day off by spending time with Christ? There is no better way to start your day than to do it by setting your mind on the gospel.

2. Praying on your way to class – enjoy God’s beautiful creation.

We live on a beautiful campus, surrounded by God’s glorious creation, soak it in!

“I stopped listening to music on my way to class, and now I pray and spend time with God instead,” says Katrina Velyan, a business administration major. “I don’t like to think of spending time with God as a task, but instead something that is necessary to get me through my day.”

We as believers are called to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:16). God doesn’t require some big fancy prayer but wants us to include Him in everything, and the long walks to class are a great way to do so.

3. Go to chapel (with the intention of getting something out of it).

Going to chapel is something we are all required to do, but that doesn’t mean we all get the same results from going. Use your time in chapel wisely and to glorify God. Ask Him to open your eyes to what the preacher is saying, and ask Him to open your heart to be tender to where He is leading you. Embrace the joy that it is to gather with so many of members of the body of Christ.

4. Add worship music into your routine. (Check out the MEL – 98.5 HD3)

We are most likely to all have a go-to playlist, but maybe it’s time to switch it up a bit and add some Christian tunes to yours. Sometimes it is something as simple as changing the music you listen to that can encourage you and push you towards Christ. Listening to Christian music is a wonderful way to draw your attention back to Christ throughout the day.

And if you’re having a hard time figuring out where to find good Christian music, you should check out the MEL at 98.5 HD3, a UNWSP student-led radio station!

5. Be intentional in everything you do.

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Colossians 3:17

Every day and every moment is an opportunity from God. Use it wisely. Remember that God does not rely on your perfection but is pleased with your best effort. He is gracious and kind and wants His children to enjoy life with Him. Life can be crazy and stressful, but God is so good, and He will give you the strength you need in all circumstances. Trust in Him.
