1. Color Code Syllabus

Do you find yourself stuck counting down the days until spring break even though you just got back on campus? Don’t worry, we got you! Here are 6 ways to beat the 6 weeks till spring break! Sometimes January can get a bit gray and gloomy, but by using color you can get organized and brighten your school day. This is your sign to color code your syllabus or To-Do lists to maximize productivity and stay on task until you start to see the colors of spring coming in.

2. Movie Marathon

A movie marathon is one of the best ways to help the time pass while staying warm and cozy. The cold and monotony of those 6 weeks before spring break can really discourage us. Movies mix up that monotony in a fun way, and it’s always something to look forward to. One night, you and your friends could be following Ethan Hunt on an impossible mission, and the next, singing Hakuna Matata with Pumba and Timon. Films and movies connect us with friends, entertain us, and help brighten those dark weeks of spring break. If you’re looking for a way to get out of the homework crunch and into the movie magic, come to The MEL’s Sundance watch party this Saturday!

3. Stock Up on Snacks

One of the best ways to get through six weeks of school is to get lots of snacks. Everyone needs that 3pm granola bar or that early morning energy drink to get them through the day. Having a quick snack while you’re finishing the last hundred words of a research paper, working on memorizing the fifty biology terms for the test, or practicing for a music competition is crucial for the mood and perseverance through your tasks.

4. Treat Yourself

If you have too many tasks on your to-do list and aren’t sure how you’ll power through, it’s okay to treat yourself! Set up a reward system for motivation. Stop by the café for a morning boost of coffee or grab yourself breakfast. It won’t put too much damage in your dining funds. If the cold weather is getting on your nerves, you can always stop by the campus store as a reward for finishing an assignment. Pick out some extra winter gear or a new UNW hoodie. These are great options for the daytime, but a late-night perk up is essential for those productive last-minute cram sessions. Luckily, the Eagles Nest is open until midnight on weekdays! Grab an ice cream, another sweet treat, or a container of fruit if you desire. Sometimes all you need is a little motivation.

5. Sleep on the Shuttle

After color-coding your syllabus, watching a great movie, stocking up on your favorite snacks, and finding little ways to treat yourself, you’ve probably tired yourself out. What better way to recharge than take a power nap? Free time is hard to come by. However, the perfect time for a nap is already carved into your jam-packed schedule: On the shuttle. As you ride from one class to another, take a moment to decompress and fall wistfully to sleep.

6. Get Involved

You walk into the Ericksen Center and right away, you can feel the energy starting to build. The music is playing, people are finding their seats, and you can tell something exciting is about to happen. Going to sporting events at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul is a good way to break up the long winter weeks leading up to spring break. With classes and cold weather dragging on, games give students something fun to look forward to at night. Sitting with friends, cheering for classmates, and just being around that competitive atmosphere makes the six weeks go by faster and makes winter on campus feel a little less boring.
