Phil J. declares his loyalty to God above fame and recognition in his peppy song, “Spotlight.” He tells all listeners that he does not create music for fame but for his God, and he refuses to let fame change him. He wrote,
“Everything I do means more than fame
Even if it comes my way
I will truly always be the same
Attention doesn’t have to change me.”
As people, we desire recognition and reward because it makes us feel seen and valued. It is normal to want people to know the work we do and appreciate it, but we must remember that what we do as believers is more than the recognition that we receive. In fact, Jesus told us this in Matthew 6:3-4: “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” God sees our work, and we should work for God instead of for people. Remember that God sees you even when it feels like others do not; the work you do for God matters to Him!
