Evvie McKinney grew up attending a church in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the youngest of seven children, and her family went to church to worship three days a week. Thus, she had many opportunities to sing and lead worship in her childhood. Over the years, she knew that the Lord had something incredible in store for her, and she wanted Him to be glorified through her music. Despite the criticism she has received in the past for her faith in Jesus, McKinney has learned that genuine faith and trust means dismissing doubt and fear. Her faith continues to impact the decisions she’s made, both in her personal and professional life. Today, she finds great contentment knowing that she is exactly where God wants her to be and is able to share her faith with others through her music.
What McKinney loves most about music is its ability to heal. It allows listeners to feel acknowledged and to relate to the lyrics of the song. In the end, it allows them to look deeper into who they are by discovering who God made them to be.
Everything I ever needed
I can only find in Jesus
I have seen it, I believe it
So take me to, take me to
Church
Take me to, take me to
Church
From “Church” by Evvie McKinney
McKinney explains that “Church” is a song she wrote that talks about how Church makes us all feel. When believers unite as one body, chains are broken. This song reminds us that everything we could ever need is found in Jesus. He is more than enough.
When the bells start ringing
And the choir starts singing
The preacher starts preaching
I know I’m home
When the hands start raising
And the saints start praising
The chains start breaking
I know I’m home
From “Church” by Evvie McKinney
When we gather in love and worship, adoring and praising our God, we form such a beautiful community, and as God promises in His Word, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20). May we find our ultimate comfort in Him and rest in His presence today.
