The MEL workshops offer you the opportunity to dive into real-world projects, work with fellow students, and explore the world of media. Developing your professional and creative skills while building your network has never been easier than in a workshop class at the MEL.
Here are some student voices on why you should join:
Matthew Sherard, part of the Five 16 Workshop, shared that “the community workshops have really supported growth and development in the creative field.”
Kendra Greisinger commented, “[Workshops] allow you to get hands-on experience while still learning, and you also get to make meaningful connections with professors and other peers, which can help you in the future.”
Kaycee Greisinger added, “It doesn’t just give you professional experience, it helps you find your calling as you explore different areas of media.” You can choose from workshops like the Five16 Workshop, Journalism & Video Workshop, Public Relations Workshop, and Radio & Podcasting Workshop. Each one offers a unique way to build your creative skills and get involved.
Five16 Film Workshop
If you’re interested in the film side of media, the Five16 Workshop is a great place to start. You’ll gain hands-on experience in the filmmaking process, from pre-production to post-production.
You’ll even get the chance to create and showcase your films to fellow students and the Northwestern community.
Radio & Podcasting Workshop
Try the Radio & Podcasting Workshop to get real on-air experience at the MEL.FM. From speaking live to learning about radio programming, this workshop gives you a glimpse at how radio and podcasting work together. It’s the perfect opportunity to sharpen your storytelling skills and learn how to make audio content.
Journalism & Video Workshop
The Journalism & Video Workshop lets you dip into the world of documentary and short-form video production. You also get to work on content for the MEL’s Instagram, a great way to get experience in journalistic storytelling and on-camera production.
Public Relations Workshop
If you like writing, strategy, and communication, the Public Relations Workshop is for you. You’ll get hands-on experience creating articles and posts for the MEL’s website, learning how to manage a brand’s public image and connect with an audience. It’s a great fit for anyone looking to build their Public Relations and digital media skills.
These hands-on classes provide valuable experience that helps you grow both creatively and professionally. So, you should sign up for one next semester and come develop those creative skills!
