A day of prayer and service has been a tradition for Northwestern, answering God’s call to serve and taking a day to participate in corporate prayer.  This spring, it will be held April 7-11 as a week of focusing on prayer and service as a community. There are no daytime classes Thursday, April 10, for a day dedicated to prayer and service.  This day is a wonderful opportunity to take a break from classes to dedicate our time as a community to further God’s kingdom.

“It was so rewarding to know that we were making a difference and it was a great break from classes to serve with my friends and teammates.” – Emma Watzka, Psychology/Criminal Justice major, ‘27

Project 29:7

The week of prayer and service doesn’t need to only last one week. Project 29:7 exists at Northwestern to provide people with service opportunities in our nearby community.  In Jeremiah 29:7, we see God remind his exiled people that while they lived in that foreign land, they were to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which he had sent them.” The initiative is called Project 29:7 to remind us of our call to do the same. Why should we serve?

Our goal as Christians should be to become more and more like Christ each day. Christ came to serve and we can show His love by doing the same. 1 Peter 4:10 says, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve on another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” God has equipped us with gifts to serve others. There are people in our community that need love and help, and the love and hope of Christ is the greatest thing we can give the world.

John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
