LINDSEY - wbyeats

W.B. Yeats was a very influential writer in the life of C.S. Lewis. When Lewis discovered Yeats, a fellow Irishmen, he was so impressed he shared his writing with many of his friends. Though his classmates were less moved by Yeats’ writing, from his work Lewis decided that he wanted to be a poet too. “Cloths of Heaven” is one of my favorite poems by Yeats and in light of Valentines Day I thought I would share it with you.

Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
