ROSEVILLE, Minn. (October 22, 2021) – The University of Northwestern put on a hype event for fans in the Erickson Center last night to get people excited about the upcoming basketball season. There were tons of different events from a fan free throw contest, to a battle between athletic trainers Taylor Gish and Brent Kramer. There was even a battle for free Chick-fil-A for a year.

Eagle Madness included events such as:

The night started with a couple of fan contests, from a free-throw knockout, to a half-court shot competition.

The lucky winner of the half court shot was none other than the student body president, Koby Wesselink.

The night continued with the men’s basketball team having a dunk competition. Dunk competition judges included young superfans and three different Northwestern athletes.

The highlight of the night was Gish vs Kramer in a 1-on-1 battle to avoid getting a pie in the face! Gish proved too strong for Kramer, consistently backing him down the paint for easy layups. In the end, Kramer got pied and the fans went crazy.

Each year, this event serves to hype the start of basketball season. November 5 the men’s team travels to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College. The women’s season begins November 10 with a short trip across town to take on the Hamline University Pipers.

Both teams are coming off of historical seasons as the men’s team took home the NCCAA National Championship last year. Meanwhile the women’s team came close to repeating what the men’s team did, as they were runner ups in the NCCAA National Championship finals.
