What happens when you combine a classic folk song, artificial intelligence, and the natural world? Visit Denler Gallery to find out!

And the Green Grass Grew All Around, a solo exhibition by artist Guy Nelson, is on display at the University of Northwestern through November 6. Inspired by the familiar folk song, Nelson reimagines its verses through an ongoing sound-and-text installation that uses AI and code to generate new connections and unexpected twists.

Alongside the installation, visitors will find paintings and sculptures made with materials such as wood, pigment, and soil. Together, the works explore our connections to nature, the balance between preservation and progress, and the fascinating ways natural and artificial worlds overlap.

Nelson holds an MFA with honors from Pratt Institute and has exhibited his work at galleries and museums throughout the region and beyond. His work invites viewers to look more closely at the systems, stories, and relationships that connect us to the world around us.

Visit Denler Gallery at the University of Northwestern through November 6 to experience And the Green Grass Grew All Around.
