This fall Reagan Soper gained the title of the executive director of the public relations workshop. Soper, a senior PR major, found herself interested in the position during the last school year. She saw this as an opportunity to grow in leadership skills and make a positive influence in the communication department.

The purpose of the PR workshop is to promote the MEL, create social media posts, write articles and promote events. All these things give hands-on experience to what working in PR might be like outside of school. It gives a fun environment where you don’t have to be afraid to make mistakes, it’s all a learning process.

The PR workshop is fairly new as it was started in the spring of 2021. Looking ahead to the 2022-2023 school year, Soper is excited to continue to develop the workshop further. Specifically, there are more events this year for the students to promote – one of which is the MEL Conference, coming up on October 1.

Who should join the PR workshop? “I’d encourage more than just PR majors to sign up! What you learn in the workshop can be so useful in every part of your life and is a great way to grow your communication skills,” says Soper.
