On October 2, the student organization Tapestry kicked off the fall season with its Global Autumn Festival, which featured four countries and their celebration of autumn: China, Korea, Germany, and the United States. Students had the chance to “taste” each country through food and cultural visuals.
As students visited each table, they got to try traditional foods and learn something new about each culture. America featured the beloved apple cider, Korea Yakgwa cookies, China moon cakes, and Germany Pretzels and cheese. The first 40 students that visited all four stations received a small token of appreciation for participating.
“I think the biggest goal I had was simply to give students a chance to experience cultures they would not have every been exposed to.”
“Great showing [of attendees] more than we assumed.”
– Olivia Friesen, Tapestry’s Intercultural Events Coordinator
Students who got to attend enjoyed the experience. A favorite among the crowd was the German pretzels, which were the first to run out.
The event had a great turnout and strong engagement from those who attended. The Tapestry team hopes to host more cultural events that connect students and celebrate cultures.
Tapestry’s mission:
“We nurture lifelong learners who actively mirror the heart of Christ. As Tapestry, we cultivate our global awareness, serve our local community, and engage cross-culturally.”
Tapestry plans to make more culturally engaging events, with hopes to see more students!
