When life gets busy, it can be easy to take our redemption in Christ for granted. The joy that we once felt when pondering our new and redeemed life as believers may have lost its intensity. May Angeles and Kevin Jones remind us of the gift of redemption in their song, “Never Wanna Go Back.” The lyrics in the chorus aim to renew that sense of awe and gratitude in Christians as we consider our new lives in Christ:
“I never wanna go back
There’s something better
It gives me hope that will last
It lasts forever
I leave my guilt in the past
and now my future
Is in the cross, in the cross.”
The lyrics go deeper than this in the next verse when they praise God for His new mercies every morning and his goodness that works for us. Do you ever wake up in the morning remembering a mistake that you made the previous day or even earlier that week? Or maybe remember something negative that happened? I know I do! Sometimes I wake up and just wish I could go right back to sleep and forget about the memory or the mistake I made.
Here is the thing . . . every day that we wake up is a new chance for us. God’s mercies are new every day of our lives–every day! This means that He has something for us each day, and it is good. So, next time you wake up with that feeling of dread or regret, remember that God has given you another opportunity. Use that day to glorify Him and celebrate the new life we are given in Christ!
