Just kidding, “The Getting Through” is actually the second top song this week, following Tedashii’s “Lights in the City. But “Lights in the City” was highlighted a few weeks ago, so I wanted to give “The Getting Through” some attention this week.
“The Getting Through” focuses on three key ideas about the Christian life. First, we will face trials and hardships. Scripture is clear that being a Christian does not protect us from trials and persecutions; in fact, we will be persecuted because we belong to the King!
Second, when we face these trials, we must put our faith and trust in God to bring us through to the other side. We are not to flee, to collapse with fear, or to try to get through using our own strength because if we do any of those things, we will fail. Instead, Judah reminds believers to proclaim:
“Take me to my trials
And teach me again
My joy is waiting
At the other side of them.”
Third, it’s not just about making it to the other side of our Red Sea. God doesn’t bring us through trials simply to get us to the other side; He wants to teach us and shape us through our trials. “The Getting Through” declares this to believers:
“Cause maybe the point is not the getting over
But the getting through.”
So, when you face trials this week–small or big–pause and ask yourself some of these questions. What is God trying to teach me? How can I make this trial count for God’s Kingdom? Am I putting my faith in God or in myself?
