Catch Local Artist Leslie Perez on the MEL: Top February Song

Leslie Perez has emerged as one of the Twin Cities coolest local music artists. Her song Catch My Breath topped the most played list in February and it delivers a rich, refreshing R&B sound. The raw, sorrowful, yet rejoicing mix fills you with the kind of hope that sustains because it resonates with the trying escape the hyperventilating craziness of life.

So, I gotta catch my breath
Over what’s inside my head
You will come through again
I know when I need you the most
You will always hold me close
So fill me up and make me whole
Only you can pick up all the broken pieces

Perez tells Rapzilla magazine that she likes the creative freedom found in Soul/R&B music because it allows her to explore the sounds and emotions she discovered in her youth.  She adds  “I’ve had a passion for music for as long as I can remember. Although I don’t come from a family of musicians, I’ve always felt music so deeply and loved singing. Growing up, I was very drawn to soulful voices and would sing my heart out whenever I had the chance to be alone.”
