“The Lightning Thief” opens February 17

In spite of only holding auditions on January 11, the University of Northwestern – St. Paul’s theatre department opens its spring season with “The Lightning Thief,” the Percy Jackson Musical, starting February 17. Performances run until February 26 in Knight Hall. Tickets can be purchased in person at the UNW Ticket Office or online at unwtickets.com.

“The turnaround is really short, which is a little nerve-wracking, but also really exciting because it gives us an opportunity more like professional theatre.”

Kati Andrs

The short turnaround time from auditions to performances has caused some worry among the cast and crew. For many, this is the first time that they have had to put a show together this quickly. Actress Kati Andrs, however, has seen the brighter side to this. “The turnaround is really short, which is a little nerve-wracking, but also really exciting because it gives us an opportunity more like professional theatre,” says Andrs.

The comparison to professional theatre is no joke. According Musicals101.com, musicals on Broadway typically rehearse for only four to six weeks before performances begin. The aspiring theatre professionals at UNW are getting quality and professional experience.
